Recently I have been making non-alcoholic carbonated beverages, and my wife requested that I just make some sparking water. This is super easy to do with a keg and CO2 tank.
I boiled 5 gallons of tap water in a stock pot to disinfect it. I didn’t bother filtering the water, because our tap water is really good in Fort Collins, but that would probably have been a good idea. Then I put the 5 gallons into a keg, just like normal, and pressurized that keg to about 35PSI for a few days.
The resulting carbonated water is very fizzy, and it probably cost less than $5 to make, mostly from the CO2 and electricity. We had some lingonberry soda concentrate from Ikea, and it makes a great soda when mixed with the carbonated water.
